Discovering the principle of Mechanism-Revealed Redshift and Blueshift of Light

Mechanism-Revealed Physics (34/40) ----- by Bingcheng Zhao

Establishing the principle of Mechanism-Revealed Redshift and Blueshift of Light (MRRBL) by revealing its mechanism and essence. For the first time in the history of physics and science, the newly established and verified principle of MRRBL mechanistically explains and mathematically quantifies the phenomena of the redshift or blueshift of light respectively due to the motion of light source or observer (P. 714 ~ 722, 6.5 & 6.6, Ch.6A, reference #2).

The definition of redshift of light in MRRBL principle is: due to the motion of light source with respect to observer, either receding from or approaching observer, the scales of length and time at the place where the wavelength or frequency of a light is measured are greater than at its source place, resulting in the increase in measured wavelength or the decrease in measured frequency of the light comparing to its source wavelength or frequency of the same light. The mechanism behind the redshift of light is that the motion of light source causes the scales of length and time at the place where the wavelength or frequency of a light is measured (by observer) are greater than the scales of length and time at its source place (where the same light was emitted). The essence of the redshift of a light is the increase in the wavelength or the decrease in the frequency of the light caused by the increase in the scales of length and time corresponding to the same light traveling from its source to the place where it is measured.

The definition of blueshift of light in MRRBL principle is: due to the motion of observer with respect to light source, either approaching or receding from light source, the scales of length and time at the place where the wavelength or frequency of a light is measured are smaller than at its source place, resulting in the decrease in measured wavelength or the increase in measured frequency of the light comparing to its source wavelength or frequency of the same light. The mechanism of the blueshift of a light is that the motion of observer causes the scales of length and time at the place where the wavelength or frequency of a light is measured (by observer) are smaller than the scales of length and time at its source place where the same light was emitted. The essence of the blueshift of a light is the decrease in the wavelength or the increase in the frequency of the light caused by the decrease in the scales of length and time corresponding to the same light traveling from its source to the place where it is measured.

Some equations in MRRBL principle are on P. 716 as Eq (6-9), Eq (6-10) and Eq (6-11); Eq (6-9)', Eq (6-10)' and Eq (6-11)' (Ch.6A, reference #2).

The newly established MRRBL principle has been comprehensively verified from multiple aspects in Ch.4B in the process of verifying MRGT (= Mechanism-Revealed Gravitational Theory, P. 445 ~ 514, Ch.4B, reference #1), because the redshift and blueshift in MRRBL principle are respectively mechanistically thus essentially unified with the gravitational redshift and blueshift in MRGT (P. 721, 6.6.3, Ch.6A, reference #2).

The key to understanding of MRRBL principle: (i) as long as you have known why length and time are variable thus relative in different inertial reference frames via the newly established Mechanism-Revealed Scales Relativity Theory (MRSRT) (P. 133 ~ 147, Ch.1C, reference #1), you will have no difficulty in understanding MRRBL principle, because it is based on MRSRT. (ii) As long as you have known the greatest equation in the history of science, which is Einstein’s famous mass-energy equation (E = mc^2 or E0 = mc^2), you will easily understand MRRBL principle, because the law of object’s mass doing work (P. 93 ~ 109, Ch.1A, reference #1), which lays the foundation of MRRBL principle (P. 894, reference #2), also reveals the mechanism behind the greatest equation (P. 114 ~ 118, Ch.1B, reference #1).
